300ml Boiling water
1 tbsp Clipper Organic Freeze Dried Instant Coffee
2 tbsp Traidcraft Fairtrade Golden Caster Sugar
3 tbsp Brandy or coffee liqueur
2 plain or coffee gluten-free muffins
2 x 300ml cartons of Granovita CremoVita, Organic Soya Cream
200ml Provamel Organic Custard
50g Dairy Free Milk Chocolate Alternative, grated

6-8 people

Mix together the boiling water, coffee, sugar and liqueur and pour it into a shallow bowl.

Cut the muffins into 2cm thick slices and stand them in the liqueur mixture whilst preparing the topping.

Mix together the soya cream and custard. Beat well until smooth.

Remove the muffin slices from the liqueur mixture with a slotted spoon and arrange them in the bottom of a serving dish. Sprinkle over half the grated chocolate.

Pour the remaining liqueur mixture into the cream topping. Beat it in, then spoon the mixture into the dish.

Sprinkle some more grated chocolate on the top, then chill the dessert in the fridge for at least half an hour.

Serve with extra grated chocolate or with chopped nuts. This is quite rich, so a little goes a long way.

Love this custard, easy to heat up, perfect addition to dessert

Nice Tasty Custard - Sun 20th Mar 2016

I really enjoyed this custard..... with some Vegan chocolate cake! I made sure I heated it really gently so to be sure not to burn it. It had a nice flavour and didn't leave an after coating in the mouth like some non dairy custards can. Will definitely buy it again.

This tastes SO good I won't bother with regular custard ever again. Real comfort food :)

Decent custard - Thu 22nd Jan 2015

Best when warm-hot but not piping hot which is the way I used to like dairy custard - tastes great over any cake or even for dipping biscuits. When cold it's like the desserts Provamel do.

Very nice custard. Even my non-vegan family will happily eat this.

Yummy - Wed 26th Feb 2014

I love this custard, happy to just eat it straight out of the pot!

I didn't think this would be great custard as I had been disappointed with a different brand, I was wrong, this was nice, thick and creamy and a bit like the custard my mum used to make.

This custard is delicious, especially served hot over a mixed berry crumble.

Conveniently made sweet custard - Tue 13th Aug 2013

I had this sometime ago and it did taste exquisite heated up with a big slice of sponge cake. It tastes quite sweet but not sickly so, and the texture is perfectly thick as it plops out of the carton. Having it cold is just as nice though, and if you require thinner custard then diluting with some water wont spoil it too much.

Nice and sweet - Fri 28th Dec 2012

To my tastebuds this is just the Provamel vanilla dessert (in 4 pack yogurt style pots) repackaged as a custard. They are extremely similar but that said, if they hadn't called it a 'custard' I wouldn't have thought of trying to warm it rather than having it cold. It actually tastes really nice warm, but a bit thin/melted if hot.

Vanilla Custard - Mon 17th Jan 2011

Can be eaten hot or cold, with or without anything! Not as rich as standard custard, but a good, satisfying alternative for vegans.

Bread, Banana & Custard Pud - Thu 12th Apr 2012

Try cutting four slices of bread in half diagonally. Place in a small baking dish, alternating with slices of banana and small dollops of strawberry jam. Pour over custard and cook in a preheated oven at 170 degrees C/gas mark 3 for around 20-25 mins. Once cooked, sprinkle with brown sugar and grill for a further 2 mins until golden.
