Customer reviews - Marigold Braised Tofu 225g

Gorgeous - Sat 30th Apr 2016

It's my first time trying this after seeing it around for a while.

I really enjoyed it.

There is so much you can use it for & it can be kept handy in your cupboard and is small & convenient enough to take out with you for picnics or when you need to bring a meat alternative.

It's actually lovely straight from the tin.

I can also imagine it being a good tuna substitute with the right flavouring.

Highly recommended.

All my friends love this tinned snack. Eat it cold or heated in the oven. Its really delicious, and a brilliant standby to have in the larder

A little sweet - Sun 14th Feb 2016

It's handy to have some tofu to hand in the cupboard, especially with a long shelf life. Canning does come with a few downsides, though, like a faintly stewed texture and taste. The braise is also a bit sweet for my liking.

Misleading name - Sun 24th Jan 2016

This in fact is not 'braised tofu' at all, it is yuba, a staple in China since the 1500s. Quite why marigold not only decided that the British public are not ready for the real name, but actually to go beyond that and lie about the production method (it is made by skimming the skin off the top of boiling soya milk, and NOT by braising tofu), is beyond me.

That aside, excellent product.

Unusual Tofu - Sat 28th Nov 2015

This is packed in a can as thin sheets of tofu in a stock liquid. Unexpectedly different to packet tofu it is interesting in taste and a great store cupboard substitute for meat in various dishes.

A great store cupboard standby - Sat 23rd Aug 2014

A great ingredient for lazy lunches - drained well and served in a sandwich with a squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of seaweed flakes; and I also like it shredded and stirred into a microwave rice pouch - not the healthiest of options but very tasty as an occasional treat!

Deliciously versatile - Thu 20th Mar 2014

This is my favourite products from Goodness. It is different to most tofu in texture and taste and is very convenient in a pull open tin. Deliciously versatile, I eat it in salads, stir fries, with jacket potatoes and on its own. I particularly enjoy it as part of a 'roast dinner', heated in its own juices in the oven.

An added extra to a boring salad, lovely

- Wed 2nd Oct 2013

This is a great product which we have used for years. Great in pies, on its own, as a sandwich filling and so easy to use, one of my husbands favourites. Marigold does some good products, this is one of their best.

This is lovely in a wrap with lettuce & hoisin, or used instead of tuna for a vegan version of tuna mayo. Very tasty and healthy. Convenient being in a tin too.

Fantastic snack - Thu 15th Nov 2012

Delicious tofu can be eaten just the way it is or cooked and served with all kind of dishes.

Very tasty and versatile - Thu 27th Sep 2012

It's sometimes hard to make tofu in the many different restaurant styles but this is definitely different to the most common tofu - both in texture and taste. It's like one of the varieties found in South East Asian vegetarian restaurants, and can even be eaten straight out of the tin. The sauce is delicious too.

Lovely veggy alternative to tuna - Fri 17th Feb 2012

I love this in a baked potato but must try it in soup or a casserole as suggested for a change.

A very handy store cupboard item as it can be used for a snack or a meal, or straight from the can! :)

tasty and versatily - Tue 19th Apr 2011

This marinated tofu is very flaky and (with a little help from some finely chopped spring onions, some shredded nori, and a squirt of lemon or lime) lends itself to faux-tuna-style salads and sandwiches. I agree with the other reviewer, though, I have trouble doing much with it because I often end up eating it straight from the can.

Marigold Braised Tofu - Sat 23rd Oct 2010

This is one of my favourite products ever. It is so versatile and great for soups, stews, salads, sandwiches etc etc but it is so moreishly tasty that it never gets further than me eating it straight out of the can.
