Customer reviews - Vbites Streaky Style Vegetarian Rashers 115g

At last I can enjoy a BLT - Mon 31st Jul 2017

The one thing that I missed after becoming Vegan was a BLT. I discovered this product on my annual holiday in Brighton and as soon as I got home found them here. So happy that along with being able to have my BLT it brings back happy holiday memories. Delicious and as they are freezable something that I will never be without.

not for me sorry - Fri 23rd Dec 2016

Was really looking to taste those rashers but unfortunately I have to say that I just found them, well let's put it this way, not to my taste! Shame as I bought 2 packs!

Quick & Easy - Thu 18th Feb 2016

These may not look like much, but they are really tasty and very quick to cook on a Saturday morning. Nice to add to sandwiches or to have on its own. A must try!

- Tue 24th Nov 2015

I loved these as I have tasted other alternatives to bacon and they have been squeegy and not nice. These have a different texture to them and with mayo (vegan!) on brown bread delicious!

mmmm! - Tue 22nd Sep 2015

These are brilliant :) great flavour and cook really fast!

mmmmmazing! - Thu 17th Sep 2015

Really delicious! Great when you want a naughty breakfast. Nice intense flavour, great texture!

- Wed 2nd Sep 2015

Really nice, will definitely be ordering again

- Fri 15th May 2015

Nice with a good protein content. These are very thin and crisp up well. Good for vegan bacon sarnies or breakfasts. Also very good in carbonara.
The Vbites Vegetarian Rashers with maple are better, it's a shame you don't have those ones on the site! The tempeh rashers are our favourites by far.

A Fab - Wed 29th Apr 2015

People always say they miss bacon when they become a vegetarian, but these are a great alternative! The flavour's fab and they're perfect in a crusty roll with a thin smear of ketchup. You want to be careful not to overcook them - they really only need a couple of minutes on either side in a frying pan, with a tiny bit of oil or oil spray. They may not brown much, but you don't want to dry them out! If you keep an eye on them, you can also cook under the grill - again only for a couple of minutes. Another tasty use is cutting it up and sprinkling over a salad - a delicious summery dish!

Vegan bacon! - Wed 5th Nov 2014

This is by far the best vegan bacon on the market. It has a lovely flavour and pleasant texture. Great as part of a big vegan fry up breakfast!

- Thu 11th Sep 2014

These are delicious, make a great bacon sandwich with mustard.

Very bacony - Tue 12th Aug 2014

Tastes almost identical to "real" bacon... best not to fry for too long as it cooks very quickly. However, it's pretty nice with a little bit of crispy edges

- Tue 1st Apr 2014

Perfect for bacon butty fix!!

- Wed 26th Mar 2014

These rashers are by far the best I've ever bought. The taste and texture are excellent and in addition to using them for a tasty sarnie they are a great substitute for bacon in a Quiche Lorraine. To freeze them I layer each slice between grease proof paper and pop into a plastic bag which makes it really handy when you only want to use a couple of slices.

- Wed 26th Feb 2014

These were nice

- Thu 20th Feb 2014

Buy these then keep in the freezer until needed, they take up little room and defrost quickly, great to have in for when 'bacon'/bagel sandwich is needed (I keep bagels in the freezer too). Delicious.

yum - Mon 17th Feb 2014

Lovely when cooked properly, I overcooked them to the point of inedible the first time. Don't exceed the 1-1 1/2 mins!

Nice as a treat - Thu 26th Dec 2013

These taste great quickly fried in a little oil and slapped in good bread or with something else stodgy like mashed potato and any fried veg.

- Thu 14th Nov 2013

Sorry to say, but we weren't impressed by these rashers, they weren't bad, just not our favourite Redwood product. Suppose it's hard to recreate a vegan bacon, the smell hung about for ages after cooking and they repeated on everyone.

Comfort Food - Mon 11th Nov 2013

Wonderful in a winter weekend breakfast with scrambled tofu and hot toast.

- Wed 2nd Oct 2013

We love these, perfect for a weekend BLT, cook up in no time.

- Thu 26th Sep 2013

I prefer to cook these under the grill instead of frying.

EXCELLENT - Thu 4th Jul 2013

Really great texture and taste, brilliant in a sandwich with tomato sauce. I love these and highly recommend them.

- Wed 1st May 2013

Love these rashers in a sandwich or fry up. They do cook very quickly so careful not to burn, although still tasty when crispy. Also nice cold in a vegan blt.

redwood vegetarian streaky rashers - Wed 5th Dec 2012

I would love to say these are wonderful like everyone else, but I have tried to eat them on several occasions, so it is not for the want of trying, but unfortunately think they are awful! I am still trying to find the perfect veggie "bacon" if it exists!

Tasty - Thu 15th Nov 2012

Fried with a hint of different spices can brighten up almost all the dishes.

Not Impressed! - Fri 30th Dec 2011

I bought these streaky rashers as a substitute for bacon to use as 'pigs in blankets' with the Redwood mixed meat sausages. Unfortunately, I found that they were quite dry and quite bland but they did have a bit of a smokey bacon taste which was something I suppose! Next time I will try them in a sandwich and give them another chance.

Mmmmm tasty - Mon 30th May 2011

Awesome taste and a really nice crispy texture if fried, especially nice in toasties and highliy recommended

Great for BLTs - Fri 25th Mar 2011

This is the only vegan 'bacon' I buy. I love having a Redwood BLT at the weekend. The rashers do cook VERY quickly though, as the packet suggests. I left my rashers for a minute too long the other day and they were rather crunchy!

cheatin rashers - Thu 30th Jul 2009

I first had these as part of an all-day breakfast at our cafe in the park. My vegan daughter and I (vegetarian) enjoyed them and asked the chef what make they were. There will always be a pack in our fridge now; they're versatile and very yummy.

cheatin bacon - Tue 9th Jun 2009

Excellent!! Really good texture, taste and cooks in under 2 minutes! They don't shrink and are of a really decent size to start with, two will easily fill a sandwich! GREAT!

Vegetarian Streaky Rashers - Mon 1st Oct 2007

These are really really nice! They taste like smokey ham or something similar and as long and you don't cook them for too long they are really soft and nice, not crispy like other makes.

Redwood Streaky Rashers - Thu 20th Sep 2007

The only decent "fake bacon" I can find that doesn't have egg or milk products in it. Once more, since becoming vegan, I can enjoy my BLTs!

Bacon in Jackets - Thu 12th Apr 2012

Try scooping the flesh from a cooked jacket potato and mixing it with soft creamy (soya) cheese, cooked peas, cooked, chopped rashers and a little (soya) milk. Refill the skins with the mixture and top with snipped fresh chives before serving.
