Serving Suggestion

For a nutritious breakfast:
Generally, for one person, use around 1/3 cup of quinoa flakes to a cup of milk, milk alternative or water. This will give a porridge like consistency.

Bring the liquid to the boil and stir in the flakes, simmer for 30 seconds.

Remove from heat. Let the quinoa stand for a few minutes. It will thicken as it stands.

When just at your preferred consistency add sweetener of choice and enjoy. Best eaten while hot.

The burgeoning popularity of quinoa has caused hardships for small scale farmers, fairtrade organic quinoa such as these flakes are an important step in supporting such farmers and the health of their land. Can be used as a soup thickener or soaked overnight in nut milk on its own or with other flakes for a nutritious breakfast.

For a quick to prepare alternative to cooked quinoa, rice or other grains, boiled water from the kettle can be mixed with a portion of quinoa flakes and left to sit until the water has been absorbed and the flakes look cooked and fluffy. This goes well with a lot of different meals.

Love these flakes - Tue 6th Oct 2015

These flakes are so lovely and nutritious. I add them to my porridge oats for added nutrients and they're also great added to flapjack and other baking recipes.

Good buy - Wed 28th Jan 2015

Makes a light porridge substitute though I think of it as more an old fashioned semolina dessert alternative, the more sweetened or longer soaked in this case the better. Excellent value.

Easy to use - Fri 18th Apr 2014

Much easier to eat and use than regular quinoa - these are light, don't have too much of a flavour and go well on cold and hot foods or even mixed into smoothies.

- Mon 24th Feb 2014

These are nice blended into muesli and soaked overnight in fruit juice, really tasty, nutritious and easy to use. P.S - the family pets will fight to the death over these -Rats.

Immune Boosting Breakfast - Sun 23rd Feb 2014

Try making porridge with 1/2 oats and 1/2 quinoa. Stir in almonds and sultanas and serve with manuka honey and a sprinkling of pumpkin seeds.

- Wed 12th Feb 2014

This is a slightly nutty-tasting and very nutritious. Ideal if you want a rice alternative that's really quick to cook.

This has a great nutty taste, and is really nutritious. Ideal if you want a quick-cooking change from rice.

Quinoa flakes - Tue 2nd Apr 2013

I tried quinoa grain and found it gritty and earthy-tasting but, ever the optimist (and gullible health-food freak!), I thought I'd give the flakes a go, see if it improved things. It doesn't. They still taste peculiarly earthy-tasting to me, though flaking them removes the grittiness. I've even tried grinding them into a flour, but it doesn't change the fact that what I'm eating is quinoa! I have the same problem with Amaranth, which is even worse, on both counts! Shame, 'cos they're supposed to be so good for you!

I add quinoa flakes to oats when making porridge and muesli as a boost of nutrition- protein in particular. I also make breakfast bakes by mixing them with apple purée and chia seeds. I would say that quinoa flakes are easier to incorporate into the diet than the grain a they cook faster and can be used to bulk things up. Can be used as a great gluten free grain alternative.

These provide a quick and easy way to incorporate this highly nutritional grain into the diet, especially when lacking the time to wash and cook quinoa. Can be used in many meals, including being mixed with water or vegetable puree and baked in the oven.

We add a spoonful of Quinoa flakes to our muesli every morning for extra goodness and protein. They have a pleasant flavour, not to strong. And they are organic too.
