More about Biona Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

Raw, virgin, cold pressed coconut oil, great for skin, hair and cooking

Fresh coconuts that have been peeled and dried at low temperatures, and then after careful pressing the coconut oil is simply filtered. There is no bleaching or pasteurisation, so this virgin coconut oil maintains all it's natural flavour and goodness.Biona virgin coconut oil is not affected by high temperature extracted process and so qualifies as a RAW coconut oil.It is unrefined and unbleached.

Coconut oil is the best choice of oil for cooking

Coconut oil is a naturally saturated oil which is free from trans-fats. For this reason it is stable at high temperatures so is a great oil to use for cooking if you want to avoid trans-fats. Coconut oil is high in aluric acid (one of the main components in breast milk) and lends a rich & flavourful nutritious boost to salad dressings and smoothies
Coconut oil is not only highly nutritious, it is also effective as an all purpose moisturiser and natural hair and body conditioner. It is suitable for everyone - from protecting sensitive baby skin to nourishing and softening rough calloused work worn hands (and feet!).

Usage

How do I use coconut oil?

  • Cooking & Baking Suitable for all types of cooking, baking and high temperature frying. Perfect for all Asian dishes.
  • Salad Dressings & Smoothies Use as an alternative to other oils in salad dressings or as a base for smoothies and desserts
  • Dairy free spread Coconut oil can be used to replace butter, margarine or other spread. It's got a fantastic flavour and makes a great dairy free spread.
  • Hair & Body Care Can be used externally to nourish skin and hair.
  • Anti-fungal Action Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has anti-fungal properties - you could even try massaging between your toes if you are prone to athlete's foot.

Coconut oil can be used as a great alternative to butter, keep at room temperature and it will be spreadable.

A great pudding recipe, 1 ripe avacado, 1 ripe banana, 1 desert spoon coconut oil, and juice of 1/4 to 1/2 lemon or lime. Process in a liqidiser/blender till smooth. Transfer to ramekin dishes and serve. Delicious! Can be used for puddings for babies.

The uses for coconut oil seem to be numerous, as mentioned in many of the reviews, another that I have been trying is for pressure sores after finding in lists of natural remedies. I can't completely say if it works but it is very moisturising which in itself is a big help. This is a quality, reasonably priced oil.

Biona Coconut Oil - Thu 28th Jan 2016

Best coconut oil I've tried. Wonderful for baking or frying, doesn't leave everything smelling of coconut but gives you all the benefits. This jar has lasted me a long time!

- Sat 23rd Jan 2016

I always trust Biona products and use this in raw desserts and as a healthier alternative to vegetable oils when frying or roasting since it has a higher smoke point.

Delicious - Wed 8th Jul 2015

Excellent quality coconut oil. I've tried several, and not all have the same 'pure' taste as this one. Highly recommended

versatile - Mon 29th Jun 2015

I use this product lots - for cooking all sorts of dishes (not only typical coconut dishes), for desserts, as a hair conditioner, for swilling around sore gums (very healing!)...

- Tue 2nd Jun 2015

Great coconut oil, one of the best I've tried so far

- Mon 18th May 2015

I usually buy the unflavoured cuisine coconut oil but this is a real treat especially for oven roasting aubergine. Great to use instead of butter in cakes in fact you can swap it in for any oil. Highly addictive though :-)

- Sun 17th May 2015

A bargain for this size container! Love Biona Organic products usually and this one is nice too. I've been using it in flapjacks and almond butter fudge. Delicious.

Love This! - Fri 15th May 2015

As a Coconut Oil user for years I've tried lots of different brands, some expensive, some not so expensive. But I love this stuff! It's lasts so long, it's creamy and not overpowering and can be used for anything from cooking to moisturising. Such a great product.

First time using coconut oil - Thu 9th Apr 2015

After seeing so many recipes using coconut oil we gave it a go and are really pleased. This is a good size jar that'll last us for some time. Gives meals a lovely delicate flavour.

- Tue 7th Apr 2015

My favourite brand of coconut oil! Really tasty and versatile!

- Tue 7th Apr 2015

Great when used to cleanse the face and as a body moisturiser after a bath

Lovely - Fri 3rd Apr 2015

Biona is one of my favourite ethical brands. Their organic virgin coconut oil tastes delicious, smells gorgeous, is good to eat and great for your skin.

Good for cooking - Fri 8th Aug 2014

Goes a long way and has many uses...worth ordering a jar this size to last. Well packaged in bubble wrap. Delivery box very well packaged and provides customer with reusable packaging too.

Pure the way it should be - Wed 23rd Apr 2014

I've had a tub of this for ages, it lasts such a long time and in good condition. Can use it for food or cosmetics - very nice quality, just remember not to leave it anywhere too warm.

awesome! - Sat 1st Mar 2014

This is the best coconut oil we have tried :-) recommended!

Just great - Tue 28th Jan 2014

Very versatile for both cooking and using on the whole body. Coconut Oil is perfect for sweet and savoury dishes eg. rice, curries, pasta, soups, sweets/deserts, snacks, chutneys, array of breads - delicious, nutritious and full of vitamins.

- Mon 27th Jan 2014

Absolutely wonderful stuff! Works well in stir fry and hot chocolate (with raw cacao)... And a beautiful moisturizer for my face!

Lovely stuff! - Thu 12th Dec 2013

Very nice coconut oil at a sensible price. Lovely and smooth, great for cooking and spreading (needs to be at approx room temperature for latter). And well done to Biona for putting it in a glass jar.

raw coconut oil - Sat 2nd Nov 2013

This item just oozes purity. I use it for frying, but have also used it for hair oil. Coconut oil can be used in so many ways. Lovely stuff

- Thu 24th Oct 2013

Good size jar for the price - melts well and is great added to flapjacks and to make scones with instead of butter also bakes nice sponge cakes

Biona coconut oil - Fri 24th May 2013

I have found this product to be of very high quality. It has been used for high temp frying and in baking. I have also used it on my eczema and moisturizing my hair. A very versatile product

Biona Organic Virgin Coconut Oil - Fri 10th May 2013

There really are innumerable ways that you can use cocunut oil. Hands, feet, skin, hair, sore joints, cakes, stir fries, curries... Biona is one of the better value organic brands, too. I can't recommend highly enough.

No limits to how you use it. - Sun 5th May 2013

This is the richest coconut oil I have tried. Make sure you get the 400g jar as you will end up using it for everything. It's the only cooking oil I use now and I also put it in cakes. You can just eat it straight off the spoon like honey. I also rub it on my knees when I get sore joints.

Wonderful taste - Sat 27th Apr 2013

This coconut oil tastes wonderful. I guess this signifies the nutrients it has. I use it for cooking instead of vegetable oil.

Review for Biona Organic Virgin Coconut Oil - Sun 21st Apr 2013

Coconut oil is great as a moisturiser for skin and hair, and amazing for cooking (it also has one of the highest smoke points, too, which makes it one of the healthiest!).

Coconut Oil - Mon 10th Dec 2012

Brilliant quality

Use it for cooking with curry's, omelettes, nice to put in scrambled egg as well & nice used as a spread on you favorite butty.;o)

- Thu 15th Nov 2012

I use this to stir fry, in baking instead of dairy butter and as an all over body moisturiser. The list of uses is endless. It is especially useful to give body and a good consistency to homemade vegan desserts. One of my favourites is to mix this with date paste, cocoa powder and vanilla as a cake icing.

- Thu 8th Nov 2012

Very good large size, I love cooking vegetables in this for a stir-fry, or curries. A little goes a long way, especially when applied to the skin for acne, cuts, chaffing, etc. You can even use it as a base for homemade deodorant, more effective than anything you are likely to try or buy. Great value stuff.

Great for skin and hair - Sat 29th Sep 2012

I use this as a moisturizer, lip balm and occasional deep conditioner. It works wonderfully well and I love smelling of coconut all the time!

If you use it on your hair as a leave-in conditioner, be sure to only use a VERY small amount. It's extremely powerful stuff - if you use any more than a tiny pea sized blob, even on long thick hair, you'll end up with your hair looking too oily. Less really is more!

Next I'm going to try keeping some in the fridge for cooking, as I've been told it's good for vegans to include plenty of coconut in their diet.

Yuk! - Fri 20th Jul 2012

I bought this as a healthy alternative for cooking but it has a very strong and oily flavour. I made a quinoa and brown rice pudding with it but it ruined it. The next day the flavour was even stronger and I ended up throwing the pudding out. Even if you're a big fan of cocunut this doesn't taste like eating coconut as you'd know it. Healthy if you can stomach it.

Very nice - Tue 14th Feb 2012

Lovely coconut oil, second favourite to Tiana Coconut Oil. Good value for money.

Biona Virgin Coconut Oil - Mon 12th Sep 2011

This is simply the best ever!! I eat it with every meal and my skin feels amazing, soft, silky and has found a new vigour and vitality . This Virgin Coconut Oil is a dream come true for me and reminds me of the wise words of a famous physician "Let food be thy medicine". Thanks so much goodness direct for all the good work you continue to do bringing the very best of nature's blessings to our tables. God Bless X

- Wed 8th Jun 2011

I love this coconut oil. Contrary to popular belief, coconut oil is quite good for you despite its saturated fat content. It is made up of medium-chain triglycerides as compared to long-chain triglycerides. In very simplistic terms, our body can use the fat in coconut oil more rapidly than other types of long-chain oil, meaning it is less likely to get stored.

Coconut oil is great as a baking substitute for any oil or shortening requirements. I use it in Christmas cookies and find that my Christmas cookies have a crispier texture, though a great taste!

It is also great in stir-frying, as it does not burn as easily as olive oil, making it quite an ideal oil to have an hand!

Overall, two thumbs up!

Virgin Coconut Oil - Thu 12th May 2011

I have ordered same product- the 2nd time have ordered 5 as no post is charged. I have ordered from other sources...however this one in a glass its better, smells delicious, does not mean the other containers are not good. I use it for cooking..gives me lots of energy. use it in the steam at the gym, hair feet. The virtues are immence..just try and see for yourself, even use it for pop corn, taste different, and the high temperature means no toxic effect.

coconut oil - Sat 30th Apr 2011

I have knees that click, not painful, but they click. Since using this in cooking, and in my green tea, they dont do it. Amazingly, and I have rosacae, and the oil takes away the redness in my skin. It also makes me feel less hungry, so I don't want to eat junk food, like sweet chocolates and cakes. I love it in home made flapjacks, breakfast pancakes, and egg white omlettes. Great alternative to butter and oil. I love it, and this is a good price!

Benefits - Tue 26th Apr 2011

Great taste and apart from all the other uses as described in other reviews I have found that I have lost a few kilos since taking this coconut oil over the last 2 weeks, (this is the 1st jar, 1 teaspoon a day). Because coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids it does help in losing weight, I won't go into the technicalities of it but I am living proof that its true.

Staple in my pantry! - Wed 30th Mar 2011

I highly recommend this product. I use it for cooking and supplementation.

- Wed 1st Dec 2010

- Wed 1st Dec 2010

biona cococnut oil - Wed 27th Oct 2010

I used to use cheap coconut oil, never again! There is no comparison, the quality is so much better, would reccomend this product. I use for cooking, baking (you need slighty less than you would butter), hair and body oil!

Biona Organic Virgin Coconut Oil 400g - Wed 13th Oct 2010

Great quality coconut oil, ideal for cooking and as a replacement for butter.

- Sat 9th Oct 2010

We use this for everything in our house! Its great to make coconut rice and also added to coconut milk, banana and raw cacao to make a super healthy chocolate smoothie! Also fab as a moisturiser and as a mask for dry hair! The possibilities are endless....!

Coconut Oil - Tue 14th Sep 2010

As a keen baker with 2 small children I'm always keen to try out ways of making healthier treats! Have been experimenting with coconut oil, using as a butter substitute in crumbles, flapjacks, biscuits - with great success. Yum. Also been adding in coconut flour too. Try it. Tastes great.

Review of Coconut oil - Sat 19th Jun 2010

It is an excellent product! It tastes great mixed with yogurt and added grinded nuts. Makes for a delicious breakfast! It enhances tastes of all kind of cakes (fantastic healthy replacement for butter!) as well as chocolate sauces.

Brilliant Value - Sat 8th May 2010

This coconut oil is brilliant quality, you can smell and taste the coconut unlike other processed brands. I use this in my baking, frying and also for my hair and skin!

- Tue 13th Apr 2010

The best natural moisturiser I ever tried. Protects a little in the sun and helps you to turn golden instead of red! Also sublime on toast with strawberry jam.

Tips

Oil Pulling - Tue 8th Dec 2015

After suffering from gum problems and persistent sore throats I read about oil pulling and the antibacterial properties of virgin coconut oil. It sounded fanciful but worth a try, so every morning for 15 minutes I swilled a teaspoon of raw oil around my mouth then disposed of it in a tissue. After around a week I began to see a noticable improvement in my gum sensitivity and oral health. This Biona organic oil smells lush and good enough to eat straight from the jar. It melts beautifully on the tongue with no unpleasant aftertaste when pulling. Glad I tried coconut oil for mouth pulling, make sure you select an unrefined brand for the highest quality and greatest benefits.

ice cream - Wed 26th Jun 2013

I have used this oil mixed lecithin granules, agave syrup, soya milk and flavouring to make a delicious ice cream which is dairy free.

- Tue 29th May 2007

Apparently you can use coconut oil on your hair as a hot oil treatment... so I tried it.

1. Heat the oil - I recommend taking some from the jar and putting it another container and stand it in hot water for a few minuets.
2. Apply the oil evenly to wet hair, paying particular attention to the ends of the hair.
3. Wrap hair in cling film or a hot towel for 5-10 minuets to allow the oil to penetrate the hair.
4. Shampoo your hair as normal and allow to dry naturally (if you can!) and feel the difference.
