More about Eat Goodness Organic Sunflower Seed Kernels

Sunflowers were once cultivated by the North Americans, who believed in using them well! They ate the seeds and extracted the oil, used the petals for dye and the leaves as an animal fodder.
Sunflower seeds are rich in B-Complex vitamins, many minerals, protein and vitamin E. The high nutritional value is particularly due to the ability of the flower heads to face the sun and so absorb the maximum amount of sunshine.

Serving Suggestion

Eat as a snack, sunflower seeds have a mild nutty flavour and and are packed full of energy and nutrional value. Sprinkle onto hot or cold breakfast cereal or muesli, use to garnish a green salads, great in a stir fry. Add a handful to a fruit smoothie for added nutrition. Goodness Organic Sunflower Seeds are very tasty, even when eaten on their own as a simple and very nutricious snack when on the go.

toast them! - Wed 24th Nov 2010

A handful of sunflower seeds are a healthy instant snack, and they are also fab toasted. I put them in a dry frying pan and toss every now and again over a medium heat. Once they turn a golden brown, remove them and sprinkle over a small amount of soy sauce. Once cooled, they can be kept in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. Great added to short grain brown rice with a little olive oil.

Soak overnight in pure water and drain before use to release even more nutrients. To me this also improves texture and taste and are lovely to sprinkle into salads or to add to stir-fries. Great value at this price.
