Not really nuts at all, peanuts are from the legume family and grow in pods. Rich in protein, they are also extremely high in B vitamins, particularly pantothenic acid (the anti- stress vitamin) and are also plenteous in vitamin E, iron and zinc.

Peanuts are a highly concentrated food and should be mixed with other foods for a meal. They are high in calories.

Try making your own peanut butter, nut loaf or home-made, roasted, salted peanuts. A handful daily (approx 30g) of peanuts has been shown to help lower blood cholesterol, so reducing the risks of developing heart desease. Peanuts have the lowest 'GI' (glycaemic index) of all the nuts, infact at just 14 they are on a parallel with green vegetables!

Officially classed as legumes, not nuts. High in protein and good for fibre, magnesium, iron, zinc, boron (important for calcium and vitamin D absorption) and iodine. Contain monounsaturated fats which can help the body lower cholesterol and help protect against heart diseases. Also helpful for prevention of type 2 diabetes, but do go for the natural vatiey, like these, and avoid the salted versions.

These are nice to snack on -- I love that they neither roasted nor salted. I ground some up and made peanutbutter cookies -- my husband said they were the best he'd ever had!
