In the D. Express 2.5.12 there was an article headline that read GARLIC MAY BE KEY TO FIGHTING FATAL GOOD BUGS

Apparently some scientists in the States (research led by Xiaonan Lu and published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy) have discovered that garlic could be a key to preventing food poisoning & severe illness. Researchers at Washington State University found garlic compound diallyl sulphide is one hundred times more effective than erythromycin and ciprofloxacin antibiotics at fighting campylobacter bacterium. Campylobacter bacterium is found on raw meat and is one of the most common causes of stomach upsets. It triggers almost a third of cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome. The garlic compound could be used for treating food preparation surfaces. One suggestion was that garlic could be used to wipe food preparation surfaces.
