Lovely alternative spread! - Mon 9th May 2011
I was looking for a fruit spread that contains more fruit than sugar. This spread doesn't even use any sugar and it uses apple juice instead, which is ideal for me. It's slightly tart with a bit of sweetness - not sickly sweet like average jam you can find in supermarkets. No skimping on cherries either and we are now getting through it very quickly since it's opened! Good buy.

This is a healthier alternative to regular jam made with sugar and has a pleasant taste, although it is far too watery in consistency, hardly a spread. However this cherry flavour is my favourite of the Meridian fruit spreads.

The texture of this is half way between compote and jam, but still very pleasant. It has lovely big pieces of cherry in, and isn't overtly sweet or syrupy. One thing I have found with these spreads, perhaps because of their texture/composition, even when kept in the fridge they can go mouldy if you have several different flavours open at once and so neglect one for a while.
