Nutritional yeast is not the same as brewers yeast, they are from differing strains of yeast. Nutritional yeast is deactivated yeast and is a great source of nutrition, it is a complete protein and is particularly rich in the B vitamins. That is great news for vegetarians and vegans alike. It is naturally low in fat and also in sodium. Because of this it is a popular condiment for those wanting to limit the salt intake but wanting a little more 'taste' on food. It can be used by everyone to add a cheese like flavour to cooking or as a condiment. Great to use instead of parmesan cheese. Go on try it.
Recommended Dosage
2 tablespoons.
Serving Suggestion
Engevita is such a pleasant tasting yeast that it can be consumed as it is. It is also readily dissolved in water, milk, fruit or vegetable juices and can be sprinkled on soups, stews, casseroles, salads and breakfast cereals to enhance the flavour. Nutritional Yeast makes a great popcorn topper or add it to mashed or fried potatoes, shake it into scrambled tofu or eggs.
Ingredients
Dried inactive yeast.

Make a white sauce with oatmilk, stir in a couple of tablespoons of the yeast flakes and you have a very tasty alternative to cheese sauce. It tastes great with spinach stirred through it too!

I was sceptical about this product until I tried it. It's got an almost cheesy flavour and works great as a topping on bakes etc. Only one tip - use sparingly as the taste can be very strong

Marigold Engevita Nurtitional Yeast Flakes are the only brand of nutritional yeast flakes available in the Uk and for that, I'm grateful. Nutritional yeast is important for vegans because they have slight traces of b12 which is the only nutrient that are hard to come by for vegans. That aside, it's yummy! As many have already discovered, it imparts a cheesiness to most things (especially tofu) but can be combine with other herbs for different flavors (try dried oregano, nutritional yeast and a pinch of salt and it tastes similar to chicken!). Lastly, price is a factor and although it is a little expensive, you won't need a lot and therefore, it'll be worth it in the long run.

Engevita yeast flakes are an excellent low-fat, low-calorie source of protein for vegans. It has a kind of cheesy, nutty flavour - I use it sprinkled on top of pasta dishes as a substitute for parmesan, mixed into vegan risottos just before serving and as a topping for stir-fries.

I can't believe how good this stuff is. I mix it with bread crumbs for breading veggies to grill/fry and add a tablespoonful when making bread for a richer taste. I absolutely love this product!

This is amazing whether you're vegan or not, it's so tasty that it's quite addictive. It has a lovely cheesy flavour and is lovely on potatoes, popcorn, crackers, in sauces, pasta... anything really, even straight from the pot. Plus it's full of vitamins and minerals so does you some good too. I wish I discovered engevita earlier.

I remember when a vegan friend first showed me engevita and I couldn't believe that she ate something that looked like fish food! And then I tasted it, wow!
It's fantastically versatile and packed full of B vitamins. I hadn't realised it was a complete protein (doh!).
I use it melted into margarine on a piece of lightly toasted bread (spread marg on the toast, sprinkle on engevita and put under the grill til the engevita looks 'melted' but not browned)
It's utterly delicious (my little one and my elderly grandmother both love it!) especially when topped with a piece of fried tofu (I went through a substitute fried egg phase a few years ago, and though this was rather nice!)In fact if you have sprinkle the engevita onto the marg spread bread and pan cook it (without oil)in a frying pan til the engevita melts into the bread.. mmmmmm..
It makes a smashing cheese sauce with a smidge of miso (google vegan cheese sauce or check out the uncheese cookbook) I use it to make peso with cashews, basil or parsley, miso, garlic and lemon juice and olive or rapeseed oil, and often have some vegan parmesan on the go (the classic blended up engevita, miso and cashews/sesame seeds again!)
Or just chuck it liberally over a red lentil sauce, or mmmm... must make some 'cheese' soup again, it's lovely! It goes a long way by the way, I'm constantly into mine and it still lasts me at least a couple of weeks unlike a block of 'cheese'. And you can use it for a lot more!
Ooooh, before I forget, it is utterly fantastic put into mashed potato, gives a really wonderful flavour

I do not know how I managed without Nutritional Yeast flakes. They are so easy and quick to use for a wide variety of snacks and meals, adding good nutrition, consistency and taste. I think they are an important part of a vegan diet and also recommend them for non-vegans.
