Product Details

Made using organically grown ingredients and containing no artificial additives, Kallo Organic Low Salt Vegetable stock cubes are specially formulated to provide a low sodium, savoury base for your home prepared dishes.

Usage

Dissolve one Kallo Organic Low Salt Vegatable stock cube in 500ml of boiling water.

Ingredients

Vegatable fat, corn starch, yeast extract, onion (6%), carrot (4%), leek (4%), celery (4%), herbs (lovage, celery, parsley, oregano, rosemary, thyme), garlic, spices (mace, tumeric).

Nutritional Information

Per 100ml:
Energy 43kj/ 10kcal, protein 0.3g, carbohydrate 0.7g, of which sugars 0.1g, fat 0.7g, of which saturates 0.4g, fibre 0.2g, sodium 0.03g. Each 100ml serving contains 0.08g salt.

Recipe

Home prepared gravy: Dissolve one Kallo Organic Low Salt Vegatable stock cube in 400ml of boiling water and simmer. Blend 4tsp (level) of cornflour with 1tsp of mustard and 50ml of wine in a cup. Add Kallo Organic Low Salt Vegetable stock, stir and simmer to thicken. Finish with a knob of butter and a twist of black pepper.
Spicy Lentil Soup: Soften one onion, one stick of celery and one small carrot, chopped, in two tsp of vegatable oil for five minutes. Add one tsp of cumin, one tsp of coriander, 150g of red lentils and one lt of Kallo Organic Low Salt Vegetable stock. Simmer for twenty minutes and liquidise.

I always find stock cubes to be too salty so thought I'd give Kallo Organic Very Low Salt Vegetable Cubes a try. These are great as they add flavour to my dishes without the overbearing saltiness of other brands. The fact they are organic is a bonus!

Take a look at standard shop bought stock cubes and you will see some dodgy ingredients and SUGAR included in there. Not in these babies, they are all natural goodness, taste great and with the reduced salt you are good to go. These are now a staple in my kitchen and I always 'stock' up.

Chilled Pea Soup - Mon 16th Jan 2012
Place 1 kg frozen peas, 1 stock cube and 1 litre water into a large saucepan, bring to the boil and simmer for 5 mins or until peas are very tender. Allow to cool, add some finely chopped mint leaves and puree. Chill until ready to serve. To serve season with ground black pepper to taste, transfer to bowls and swirl in some creme fraiche.
