Channa dahl flour.

Energy 1332kJ/315kcal, Protein 21.4g, Carbohydrates 81.3g 9of which sugars 2.5g), Fat 5.4g (of which saturates 0.5g), Fibre 10.7g, Sodium Trace.

Other Information

Gram or channa dahl is a member of the chick pea family which mills into a fine yellow flour which is a rich, natural and glutem free source of protein and dietary fibre.

Recipe

Onion bhajias:
75g gram flour
2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp turmeric
½ tsp salt
½ tsp mixed spice
4 tbsp water
100g sliced onion
25g grated potato
5 tbsp oil

Mix together the gram flour and all the spices. Add water to make a smooth batter. Add sliced onions and grated potatoes and mix well. Heat oil in a heavy based frying pan and gently drop in spoonfuls of the mixture. Cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from oil and drain before serving.

I love gram flour for its cheery colour, smooth texture and earthy flavour.
Great for macrobiotics and vegans: I have been using it successfully in any recipe that calls for eggs, and also to make veggie burgers or croquettes.

It is so versatile you can use it in sweet and savoury dishes alike and... I even wash my hair with it. Honestly!

I have used this product to make pizza bases and shortbread while on a low/slow carb diet Less carbs than other flours but still high. When used in the right way it can be a valuable product.

I use gram flour to thicken curries and sauces. It has a much nicer flavour than corn flour. I have found nothing tastier to thicken the bechamel sauce in lasagne.
