Oh dear, I'm not a fan of smoked cheddar anyway, but this chalky, oversweet mess with a horrible texture may have put me off all cheese substitutes!

Vegan Cheese - Wed 14th Jan 2009
I've tried many vegan cheeses and have found that whilst all of them have their good points, none of them have managed to master an 'all-rounder' - that being, taste, texture, ability to melt, ease of grating and healthiness etc).
The Sheese brand seem to have concurred the 'gratability' and texture elements, but I feel they haven't quite got their with taste and 'meltabily'.
This variety specifically, I found to be very nice upon my first taste, but after a couple of seconds it changed into a rather unpleasant after-taste that seems to linger for several minutes. This, in turn, somewhat tainted the taste of other things I ate following.
I had bought this primarily because I had heard so many good things about this product, but I don't think it's anything to rave about and personally prefer the mozzarella style - this however could just be a question of taste as the same goes for the cheezly and tofutti products.
However, all in all, nothing can beat the mozzarella cheezly (tofutti is nice admittedly, but I unfortunately got put off that after becoming aware of the amount of hydrogenated oils that are used).
I have only tried three of the cheezly flavours - Nacho Style, White Cheddar Style & Mozzarella Style - Nacho was nice and worked well. It was however quite hot and spicy which I am not a lover of (Those who like their foods/cheeses with a bit of a kick though, I am sure would love this). The White Cheddar, I'm afraid to say, I found to taste powdery and vile - It lacked everything you'd expect a cheese to be - it had little flavour and more of less crumbled in your mouth. Somewhat conjured the idea of eating chalk. Whilst the mozzarella cheezly was the complete opposite. It tops them all - flavoursome, smooth, melts nicely (not fantastically, but well enough) and grate very well.
I endeavour to continue trying all vegan cheeses, but so far, mozzarella cheezly has been the best I have found and whilst you can find bad points, it is by far the closest I've found to an 'all-rounder' vegan cheese.
