Advice
Homogenised? - Mon 28th Jan 2008
Hi, I was recently asked if Rice Dream was homogenised and pasteurised?
I can confirm that the product is both Homogenised and UHT, neither of which prevents a product from being called natural.
Homogenisation is carried out to provide an even distribution of particles throughout a liquid. In the case of cows milk this involves breaking down fat chains including saturated fats into smaller, more easily absorbed globules which causes concern to some people - since Rice Dream does not contain saturated fat this should not be an issue. It helps to ensure the added calcium is evenly dispersed.
UHT is used to kill bacteria and provide a 'shelf stable' product with a reasonable shelf life, it would not affect the body's ability to absorb Calcium. Heat treatment does not reduce the amount of Vitamin D present which aids the absorbtion of calcium by the body.
I hope this answers your questions.
Best wishes

Rice Milk is a dream - Thu 11th Oct 2007
I have been vegetarian for many years and recently I have become a vegan. The difference in my health has been amazing!
I have suffered from IBS for most of my life but since switching to rice milk (as well as Soya) I have notice a remarkably difference. I would strongly recommend this to everyone especially those trying to loose weight as cows milk is NO good and does the body more harm than good. Please give it a try you wont regret it!! :)

Naturally sweet - Mon 11th Oct 2010
Rice milk is very light, easy to digest and has got a gentle subtle taste.
It is very refreshing, and naturally sweet, so you can use it for pudding, sweet French toast, etc.
Try and make porridge with rice milk instead of water, for a decadent but all good creaminess!

Refreshing and light - Fri 18th Feb 2011
This has a very light taste a bit like skimmed cows milk, I wouldn't call it creamy, it has a delicate sweetness which is more pronounced in the vanilla variety . My favourite is the hazelnut variety, it is really lovely, a richer creamier sweet nutty milk which is the best milk substitute I have yet found, with none of the 'chalkiness' of soya milk. This is good on cereal or in smoothies (try it with banana and mango, yum!) or on its own as a refreshing drink, but not so good in a cup of tea. If I was making porridge with it I'd use the hazelnut one.

Really Versatile - Wed 18th May 2011
I've been using Rice Dream since being diagnosed as lactose intolerant. It has a sweet, light taste and really easy to use in cooking just like milk. They have loads of recipes on their website, have only tried their smoothies but think I will try and experiment with other recipes soon!
