Chloranthus is one of the six classic teas originally blended during the flower-loving Ming dynasty. If the smoky hint of sandalwood in its complex flavour seems familiar, take pride -- you have a fine nose for tea. When the first Earl Grey teas were developed, blenders attempted to mimic the taste of chloranthus flowers using oil of bergamot. The Chinese however, prefer, have always preferred the natural taste of the flowers.

- Thu 22nd Feb 2007 Buying this tea was a total waste of money. The info on the website compares it to Earl Grey - it is nothing like it, just weak and very faintly flavoured of nothing much. I have bought three different Birt and Tang teas and they've all been disappointing. I won't buy any more. Reviewer's Name: Rosalind Smith
