A richly flavoured concentrate of pure Date Syrup contains no additives or preservatives and is an excellent natural sweetener. Date syrup is popular in the East where the abundance of dates makes date syrup an obvious sweetener of choice. It is very versatile and can be used wherever molasses, treacle, syrup or sugar are traditionally used.
Serving Suggestion
Use to make flapjacks and cakes or to flavour ice cream, yoghurt or muesli. Mix in equal proportions with Meridian Tahini to make a delicious spread.

Advice
Not suitable for diabetics - Wed 23rd Apr 2008
This product is marked as "sugar free" but as it is pure date syrup it will contain a high level of sugar from the fruit.

I used this for Christmas cake and puddings last year for a friend that is intolerant to refined sugar. I found it very sweet and that using half the amount w/w compared to recipe's sugar requirements was ample and left the cakes and puddings sweet enough and very fruity and dark.
A definite sugar substitute!

I wasn't too keen on this.

Great for mixing with Tahini to eat with toast, or even using in cakes or as a topping. Unfortunately lately these are a bit too watery in consistency, much like Meridian's fruit spreads.

Great for chocolate cake! - Sun 2nd Oct 2011
I absolutely love using date syrup in cake making, I switched a while ago to a cheaper alternative and have only just realised why my baking doesn't taste the same! It has a rich, deep flavour that I love (not as caramel-y as dates as I remember)
Dates are apparently rich in vitamin A, iron and potassium, minerals and other goodies, although I don't know if the processing involved in turning them into syrup would reduce the levels (presumably they don't need to be heated much before pureeing as they're so soft)
Dates' sugars are fructose and dextrose (agave is also mainly fructose, I don't know enough about the different sugars and their GI to comment, if anyone else knows more feel free to add!)
I was really interested to hear about the sweetness and use in recipes from Mrs K Rumary, I shall have to get some in again and experiment! Will write again if I do, particularly if the formulation has changed, hope it's as good as I remember.
Definitely worth giving a go to add richness and depth to recipes (hmm.. wondering how it would be in chocolate mousse...)

This is a really great and affordable syrup, great alternative to maple syrup on pancakes!

Sweet but unusual - Wed 15th Feb 2012
A slightly acquired taste, but I love it on porridge and pancakes. Always good to have a sugar to alternative, although it is very sweet.

Not as good as it used to be since it's now rather liquidy and diluted, good taste nonetheless, nice mixed with tahini as a spread.
