Not really nuts at all, peanuts are from the legume family and grow in pods. They carry a very high proportion of protein which is equal to many meats. They are extremely high high in B vitamins, particularly pantothenic acid (the anti- stress vitamin) and are also plenteous in vitamin E, iron and zinc.
Peanuts are a highly concentrated food and should be mixed with other foods for a meal. They are high in calories.
Try making your own peanut butter, nut loaf or home-made, roasted, salted peanuts. A handful daily (approx 30g) of peanuts has been shown to help lower blood cholesterol, so reducing the risks of developing heart desease. Peanuts have the lowest 'GI' (glycaemic index) of all the nuts, infact at just 14 they are on a parallel with green vegetables!

These are nice to snack on -- I love that they neither roasted nor salted. I ground some up and made peanutbutter cookies -- my husband said they were the best he'd ever had!
