Product Details

Pearl barley is the whole kernels of the barley grain which has been hulled (outer bran husk removed) and then polished. The polishing makes it easier to cook and digest.

Serving Suggestion

Pearl barley is mostly used in soups and stews, where it serves both as a thickener and a grain addition, but it also makes a nice side dish or salad.

I love this stuff.. Using it in casoroles, soups and stew... Its filling and healthy... use instead of carb loading rice or pasta if trying to cut down on carb intake

A Great Quality Barley - Sat 25th Sep 2010
This barley is soft and melts in the mouth with a delicious, soothing aroma. It makes lovely creamy soups : fry an onion gently, add the soaked barley, seasalt, cook for approx. 40 minutes and then add watercress, cook on very low heat for 5 minutes, blend and enjoy -de-li-cious!

Dairy-free stuff - Thu 5th May 2011
If you overcook barley and add more water to it, you can blend it in a sort of creamy barley milk.
I have tried making all sorts of grain milks and to me barley milk was the tastiest and richest. It made a great custard!
