Goodness Organic Buckwheat Roasted 500g
Also known as Buckwheat Groats or 'Kasha'
Customer Reviews Write ReviewProduct Details
Organic roasted buckwheat is a really good alternative. If you want to eat it as a replacement for rice, you need to buy the roasted version. The unroasted version is good as a porridge substitute. (You can, of course, roast the unroasted type yourself.)
Buckwheat has all the advantages of rice - gluten free, good for food intolerance sufferers - but it has 18% protein, as against 8% in rice, so there's better food value and, as it isn't a grain, it doesn't concentrate heavy metals such as arsenic.
Serving Suggestion
Use in a similar way to rice.
Ingredients
Just toasted buckweat and nothing else.

Good for cold weather - Tue 12th Oct 2010
Buckwheat has a strong taste, that some might have to acquire, but in cold weather I eat some several times a week. It is one of the beat grains to sustain you in cold weathers, and they eat a lot in Russia!
This one is roasted, which means the flavour will be enhanced and also that it cooks in no time.
I love to combine it in a simple soup with gently sautéed onions, and iron rich greens like watercress or nettles. This soup gets better as it matures too.
